Chapter 7

Salt Lake City, Utah Chapter 7 Bankruptcy Lawyer

Credit card companies will not advocate for you if you fall behind on your payments. These companies are in the business of making money. High interest rates and lines of credit can easily lead to insurmountable debt. In addition to credit card debt, unexpected illness or job loss can lead to expensive medical bills and complete loss of income.

Petitioning for Chapter 7 bankruptcy could be your best option for debt relief. Attorney Gregory W. Stevens is prepared to offer you a solution. Mr. Stevens works with individuals and families who need to make a fresh start. If you are considering bankruptcy, contact Mr. Stevens by e-mail or call 385-232-3775 / 800-405-2379 to schedule a free consultation.

What is Chapter 7 Bankruptcy?

Chapter 7 is a potential way to discharge debts you have accumulated. In Chapter 7, a bankruptcy trustee gathers and sells your non-exempt assets and uses the proceeds to pay your creditors. You will be able to keep certain property, such as personal items and household goods, but you may need to sell your home, car, and other secured assets to pay your creditors.

Following the sale of assets and payment to creditors, any remaining eligible debts are discharged. Some debts such as child support, student loans and taxes cannot be discharged.

How Can Filing a Chapter 7 Bankruptcy Help Me?

In addition to discharging certain debts, Chapter 7 will stop harassing calls from collection agencies and other creditors. Once you file with the courts, an automatic stay is put into place which bars creditors from reporting to credit agencies or harassing you for debt repayment.
